The scary joke that made our new home shake
Seeing animal bones on our porch quickly turned our dream home into a nightmare. George, my husband, thought it was just a joke, but as the bones kept coming in, fear set in.
The scary vibe in our new neighbourhood messed up our perfect life, which included a loving husband and two beautiful children. It was too quiet on the streets, and our neighbours didn’t come close.
Emma, our six-year-old daughter, wouldn’t sleep in her new room because she said she heard whispers in the walls. That was the first sign of trouble. Tommy, our four-year-old son, woke up crying and begged to leave “the scary house.”
After that, the animal bones began to show up. My husband thought it was a joke because they were all lined up nicely. I knew something was wrong when they kept coming. We needed to know what was going on so we set up hidden cams and caught our neighbour Hilton breaking into our property and throwing bones around. He was obsessed with what he thought was a prize.
Hilton was caught by the cops, and we finally had peace. However, the event left its mark. Just in case, I still check our front door every morning.
But the strength and love of our family won out. We found the answer, and our house was finally full of laughter and happiness again.
What I learnt from looking back is that even the scariest events can have happy endings that make me value the love and safety of my family even more.
Our house used to scare people, but now it’s a safe place, even with our odd cat visitor, who’s always more welcome than neighbours who break bones.
