Due to a bumper sticker that has been labeled racist, the Danville establishment Gross’ Burgers is currently facing hundreds of critical comments on social media.
After a patron posted a photo of the eatery on social media and described it as “absolutely disgusting,” the bumper sticker became widely known. Since then, the proprietor of the eatery has declined to take down the contentious bumper sticker.
“If you can’t read this, thank a Marine” is written on the sticker, along with the Arabic phrase “Allahu akbar.”
The sticker is one of the “patriotic items” that owner Brad Gross claims has been a fixture of the restaurant for over a decade. He even claimed to have received it from a Marine while serving in Iraq, according to Fox News.
The patron who posted the restaurant’s photo is still repulsed by it, though. With the title “f—— Grossburgers,” Sam Schnelle’s Facebook post received over 800 shares. Completely repulsive Later, Schnelle said that she had called the restaurant to ask them to take down the sticker, but she had not heard back favorably:
“The manager said, ‘We are most definitely not taking it down,’ after they handed him the phone. These days, YOU PEOPLE are far too sensitive. He then went on to dispute any suggestions or comments I made before hanging up on me,” she remarked.
Since the initial photo was shared, a large number of tweets and Facebook posts have been removed. Having served in the Marines, Gross now runs a burger joint where he employs other veterans. His community has backed him up and shielded him from the criticism. “I am so grateful to them,” he continued. In addition, he says his lengthy military career is something to be honored and valued. He has stated unequivocally that he does not intend to have the sticker removed.
On the other hand, the restaurant owner’s response has drawn criticism. In Schnelle’s Facebook post, for example, a commenter questioned, “Why are all these Americans celebrating for ignorance? Speaking multiple languages is something to be proud of. Horrible.”
“Hey Danville people, don’t eat at Grossburgers!” tweeted Rachel Parker. Refuse to condone racism!”
Additionally, caustic remarks like “Ya know. Although I have no problem with racism, all of this chatter about disgusting burgers is making me want their fries.”
